Potential New Manager: Élie Baup
By: Julien | June 1st, 2008
Today, La Voix du Nord has revealed that former Toulouse manager,Élie Baup, is another post-Puel consideration. Baup was responsible for sending le Téfécé to the 2007/2008 UEFA Champions League. They were soon eliminated in the tournament by Liverpool F.C. Toulouse’s poor performance in Le Championnat last season and Baup’s dispute with the club’s president fueled his departure. Will the capped manager make it to Lille? Probably not. Seydoux seems intent on keeping Puel for a couple more seasons.
With rumors floating around about Puel’s departure it was only a matter of time until we received rumors about a potential replacement. Rudi Garcia was the first name to appear. Garcia is currently Le Mans’ manager. He has been with the club for only one season, and so far Rudi has not produced vastly different results. Le Mans finished the 2007/08 Ligue 1 season just three spots higher than they did during the previous year. They also fared exactly the same in the Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue. The club has not really garnered much success with him on board, but Garcia has not been there very long. I can’t see them sacking him after one season. I hope he doesn’t appear on the Lille sidelines next season. He isn’t a strong tactician like Puel. Futhermore, Le Mans ended last season with goal differential of -3 whereas Lille ended with +13. Lille under Puel’s leadership is well known for solid defense. That may not continue with Garcia pulling the strings.
Lille’s official website has a gift for the LOSC fans. They have scanned and uploaded Go LOSC! Issue 3. Go LOSC is the official LOSC Lille Métropole. It features player interviews, fantastic photos, and club news. The magazine is freely viewable on the LOSC website in PDF form. It is all in French so Anglophones will probably have a hard time reading it. Nevertheless, you could check out the nice photos and layout:
