Olympique Lyonnais Snubs Lichtsteiner
By: Julien | June 28th, 2008
Stephan Lichtsteiner was snubbed by Olympique Lyonnais’ Bernard Lacombe. Apparently, he is not convinced that Lichtsteiner is worth signing. The Lille defender has been eager to leave the club since the start of the Euro. Ouch! That must really hurt the Swiss’ ego. I guess he thinks he is hot stuff after his Euro 2008 selection. Well cry me a river Stephan.
Florent Balmont praises Lille’s future:
“This is a club that aims to it’s highest potential. Certainly, Lille is among the top 10. Hooked to a European place. It is a young side, but it has a lot of potential.”
Balmont most likely means that Lille is one of the top 10 French clubs.
The Goalkeeper Problem: Charles Itandje is close to signing with Turkcell Süper Lig champion Galatasaray S.K. The Turkish club has offered the Liverpool keeper a three year contract with a transfer fee of 3 million euros. Lille wanted to sign Itandje to replace Tony Sylva. Sylva is on his way out of Lille. Turkish clubs seem to have a current liking for French keepers. Trabzonspor, another Turkish club, is offering Tony Sylva a two year contract. He has played most of his career in Monaco and Lille. Sylva also has several caps for Sénégal. Arguably, he is one of the best keepers in Ligue 1. It will be sad to see him leave. Valladolid goalkeeper Ludovic Butelle is another possibility for Lille, but negociations seem really quiet right now.
Olympique de Marseille has entered the fray for Kevin Mirallas. Mirallas has a year left on his contract with Lille. He has expressed some interest in leaving, but that may be difficult considering Rudi Garcia’s determination to keep him.

If I was Lyon I wouldn’t sign him either. In the Euro’s- wasn’t great in defense, was pretty poor in attack, and whinged to the ref just about the entire match.
Maybe he’s better in club ball.

There are way better options available. Maybe he should go to EPL. Lille will get some good money out of it as well.

Aditya, the EPL is a good idea. PSG and Real Madrid showed interest in Lichtsteiner awhile ago. Maybe they are still options.
Matt, you’re right I did notice his whining to the ref. That was annoying.Posted from
