Northern Derby: Lille vs. Lens
By: Julien | May 12th, 2008
The 37th match of the season for Lille was an important encounter. Not only did the club face their northern rival, RC Lens, but the match would also help make or break any UEFA Cup qualification chance. The northern derby was played at Lille’s Stadium Lille Métropole. The score ended pretty close 2-1 in Lille’s favor. Although the match was close, Lille did seize control and remained dangerous throughout the match. Near half-time Cabaye scored a nice goal after a great collective set up from Béria and Makoun. Frau’s goal was a header set up from Bastos and Obraniak. Unfortunately, Lens’ only goal was from a penalty. Claude Puel was pleased with the match result. He says the club remains on course for a UEFA Cup qualification. I think that we could possibly clinch a UEFA Cup spot. The club will want to win its last match of the season away to Lorient.
