The future of the club… “to challenge Lyon in 2012″
-Michel Seydoux
LOSC President
Strong words from the head honcho of Lille. The club has stressed that the main step towards this goal is acquiring a new stadium. Lille’s new stadium, Stade Borne de L’Espoir is set to be completed in the year 2011. The new stadium will feature a retractable roof, and a holding capacity of approx. 50,000 people. It’s capacity is a huge increase from the current stadium. Stadium Lille Métropole seats only 18,000. The stadium sounds amazing. It sounds like a venue to be proud of. I don’t think that Lille will be able to compete with Lyon by the year 2012. I see it as an ambitious and unrealistic goal. We just don’t have the quality for that right now. 2012 seems too soon for a huge turn around. Then again anything is possible. My hope is that this goal/project drives the management to recruit some interesting players.

Looks very nice! Will the city of Lille finance this project or will Lille have to take on the credit? Though I guess with 50000 vs 18000 seats, the stadium should completely refinance itself without putting any strains on the club’s current budget.
Good to see Ligue 1 starting to catch up with their stadium infrastructure.

I am pretty sure that the city of Lille will assist in the financing. It really is a big project.
