Lille Signs Patrick Kluivert
By: Julien | August 31st, 2007
Lille has officially signed PSV striker Patrick Kluivert. The Dutch striker has signed a one season deal with LOSC. I still have not found how much LOSC payed for him, but I do know he will wear number 9. He will not play in Lille’s next match against Rennes. Kluivert has had an impressive career. Kluivert has played for Ajax, Barcelona, AC Milan, Newcastle United, Valencia, and PSV Eindhoven. He has 79 caps and 40 goals with the Dutch National Team. In 330 club matches played, he has scored 145 goals. He sounds great for Les Dogues doesn’t he? Not exactly. Kluivert is now 34 years old, and last season with Ajax he only scored 3 goals in 16 appearances. Yuck. I think even Odemwingie scored more goals than him last season. The club is bringing in an aging veteran.
Also Lille drew Lens, our northern rival, in the Coupe de la Ligue. One thing I like about the Ligue 1 table right now is that Lens is in relegation zone! They probably won’t be relegated, but you never know. Here’s to the relegation of RC Lens!

Kluivert was signed for nothing, since he was a free agent since his contract with PSV ran out in July…

I’ve found out why Kluivert was signed.
It’s Claude Puel’s birthday today. Lille bought him a new toy.

It’s good to have him in L1. He might be a fading star, but that’s what we all thought of Wiltord!
He might rekindle his fires and start banging them in, and since he’s free, it’s always nice to have an extra option.

This guy is getting paid 40.000 euros a month, which isn’t a lot in superstar world so he might be really interested in the challenge. Let’s hope the Lille nightlife ain’t too much for him.
