Lille Close To Keeping Rio Mavuba
By: Julien | June 17th, 2008
According to France Football, Rio Mavuba may officially stay at Lille. Mavuba is expected to sign a contract with LOSC this week or just before the date that the players return to practice (June 23rd). He was loaned to the club by Villareal. Mavuba was a great addition to the club last season in the midfield. We almost lossed this one. He was linked to PSG and Olympique de Marseille earlier during this transfer period. Rio Mavuba is the only Lille player that Domenech ever calls up.
We kept Mavuba, now we just have to keep Kevin Mirallas. Everyone wants the promising Belgian. The list includes: Tottenham, Espanyol, ASSE, Marseille, Bordeaux, and PSG. It will be hard to turn down those great clubs. My guess is that the only way we can keep him is if the LOSC management offers him a lot of money.
Olympique Lyonnais officially unveiled Jean II Makoun as a Lyon player yesterday. He cost Lyon 15 million euros. Makoun’s contract is for 4 years. Jean-Michel Aulas’ reaction: “He is one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe, a star player.” And now for Makoun’s reaction: “It is a club that I have contacted in the past and one where I will find Keita, Bodmer, and maybe Claude Puel, it will be really nice, because he is the manager that got me started.” I still can’t believe we let another talented player go to Lyon. “They might as well rename the first division in France the Lyon Championship! It’s getting bloody stupid now. ” -Dogme from MaXxed Football Forums. I can’t blame Les Gones for wanting good players and growing, but damn. It will only get worse and harder for the rest of the Ligue 1 clubs with Puel’s eventual move.
Le Parisien says that one of Lille’s transfer priorities is Nice midfielder Florent Balmont. He is reportedly Makoun’s replacement. Nice’s president Maurice Cohen wants at least 2.5 million euros for Balmont. Florent’s youth club was Olympique Lyonnais. He has played professionally for Olympique Lyonnais, and Toulouse. Will we see him in a Lille jersey next season? Let’s hope.

I believe Mirallas will jump at the chance to play in England or Spain, but the question is still whether or not he is ready. He does not score a great deal so I think he should probably go to Spain where skill is more appreciated then in England, where your goal total matters most of all. I wouldnt mind if Lyon picked him up to though, I love him as a player.
