Friendly Matches and Schmitz Loan To Birmingham
By: Julien | July 5th, 2007
LOSC’s friendly match against Valenciennes FC has been canceled. The match was supposed to be held on July 20th. According to the allezlesdogues fansite, this match could be replaced by a friendly against Sporting Lisbon. This Sunday, Les Dogues face Olympique Lyonnais at Stade Olympique d’Albertville. The match will be televised on the internet on OLTV and OL Premium starting at 17:45 (France time). I wonder what the starting line-up will be for Lille in that friendly. We may get to see one recruit play, Yanes. The other new recruit, Franck Béria, injured himself at training recently.
Rafaël Schmitz is currently negotiating with Birmingham City F.C. According to footbal365.fr, he will play the next season in Birmingham. Schmitz won’t be transferred, but instead loaned to the newly promoted EPL side with the option later to buy from LOSC. After placing second in the Football League Championship, Birmingham City F.C. were promoted to the EPL. I find it pretty sad that Schmitz would leave a midtable/former Champions League French club for a newly promoted EPL club. He must really want to play in England.

What is with Sporting and friendlies with French teams? Their website listed friendlies with both Lyon and Marseille on days that those clubs are already booked (Lyon with Metz, Marseille with Anderlecht). It’s like Sporting officials are just randomly picking French teams.
