Chaos In Lille: Seydoux Interview,Béria Injury, Rafael Departure
By: Julien | July 4th, 2007
Europe 1, a French radio station, recently had an interview with LOSC’s president, Michel Seydoux. Several things were discussed, but I will highlight the ones I feel are most important. Seydoux says he is currently totally confident with Claude Puel. He also said that the new stadium is a handicap for the club’s economic plan. Seydoux also wants LOSC to be a large club in 10 years, and he is is frustrated that the club is not there yet. He says to be powerful in Europe you need a budget of 80 million euros. According to Seydoux, the Gignac business is over. He also said the mercato is a year round event. Finally, he said that the club is better now than 3 years ago when Lille finished 2nd in the Ligue 1. I wonder what fantasy world Lille’s president is in right now. If last year’s club with Odemwingie, Keita, Bodmer, Tavlaridis, Audel, Gygax, and Schmitz couldn’t even get us into the UEFA Cup, how in the world could our current depleted squad get second place in the table!? That logic makes no sense. It scares me that Seydoux thinks this way. How can someone be complacent and arrogant when your club does a lot worse than they did in the prior season? Lets kick some common sense into Seydoux.
The news only gets worse from here. One of our new recruits (there are only two guess one!!) has already injured himself. LOSC right back, Franck Béria, hurt himself in training. He currently has a fracture of the metacarpus, and will be out for three weeks. I read this news story today, and I was thinking to myself “you have got to be kidding me.” Great start Béria! You were just transferred to the club, and you got an injury before the season even started. Just wait it gets even better…
Rafael Schmitz left training today in Alpe D’Huez to negotiate with the newly EPL promoted side, Birmingham City F.C. Isn’t it great being a LOSC fan right now? The president is an idiot, a new recruit just got injured, and the club is losing players left and right. Sounds like a great summer.
