Bad Dog! Lille Gets Spanked By Sporting Lisbon.
By: Julien | July 23rd, 2007
A couple days ago, Les Dogues got wrecked by Portugal’s Sporting Lisbon in a friendly match. The match was played in Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon, Porgual. Just how bad was it? Is 3-0 bad enough for you? It sure is for me. 1st half line-up for Lille:
Malicki
Béria Rami Plestan, Tafforeau
Debuchy Cabaye Makoun Bastos
Yanes Fauvergue
Looks like the 4-4-2 formation was used.
In the first half Plestan and Rami did a good job keeping away the Sporting Lisbon defense. The Portuguese side had good rhythm from the very start of the match. In the 16th minute, Liedson (Spor) scored with a powerful kick. It was too good for Malicki. Before the goal was scored the opposition was dominating possession. The next half would fair even worse for Les Dogues. Claude Puel decided to change the line-up and formation in the second half:
Sylva
Béria (Lichtsteiner, 69è) Rami Plestan (Chedjou, 80è) Tafforeau (Emerson, 69è)
Dumont Cabaye (Ewane, 80è) Maric
Youla Obraniak
Mirallas
It eventually switched to Lille’s mostly used formation, a 4-3-2-1. The tactical change didn’t help, however. Liedson (Spor) scored another goal in the 52nd minute with an empty net. Damn you Sylva! In the 63rd minute of the match, LOSC’s Obraniak had a great chance to score, but it hit the bar. Sometimes it just isn’t your day in football. Two minutes later, Simon (Spor) put the icing on the cake for Sporting Lisbon. Obraniak had another good strike in the 73rd minute, but to no avail. Disappointing match for LOSC. In the postmatch reaction from Puel, he did not say anything really interesting. He says the club will continue to increase its level of play (especially amoung the young players). He also said a muscle spasm did not allow Franquart to play in this friendly.

How did Mirallas, Cabaye and Debuchy play?

I was not able to see the match, but from what I read, Mirallas didn’t get many chances. I am not sure how Debuchy and Cabaye played, but I am guessing they didn’t play well. The midfield in general should have supported the defense and offense better.
